Many Oscar-winning actresses have drastically changed their appearances to "get into" character for their roles -- remember how Charlize Theron got "ugly" for Monster and Hilary Swank went "totally boy" for Boys Don't Cry. Gaining a little weight and cutting your hair is one thing, but Rooney Mara, star of the upcoming The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, actually went under the needle for her role. That's right! Mara got pierced in multiple places on her face AND body, just for the role.
To add authenticity to her character Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, who is described in Stieg Larsson's book of the same title, Mara got her ears, eyebrow, lip, and nose pierced for the film, and that's not all. She also got her right nipple pierced. About the nipple piercing, she told Allure magazine:
It was actually not that painful. Everyone thinks that would be the most painful ... I'm naked quite a lot in the movie. And I thought, She has it in the book, and she should have it [in the movie]. Because of all the tattoos and the makeup and the piercings, and the physical transformations my body has to go through, it would always feel sort of like I was in costume, even if I was naked. It just felt like a good one to get -- a necessary one to get.
Necessary huh? Wow, now that's professional dedication! Of course, I'm sort of not believing her when she says it didn't hurt that bad because when later asked in the interview if she has taken the nipple ring out since the movie wrapped, she said she hasn't. Wanna know why? Well, depending on the success of this first movie, there could be two movie sequels based on the other two Larsson books, and Mara says, "It's not something I want to ever get repierced. So I'm going to keep it in."
Yeah, it totally hurt. I knew it.
Have you ever had your nipple pierced? Would you?
