Don't you just love Nicole Richie? She's so down-to-earth, and fun, and she definitely says whatever happens to pop into her mind, a quality I find very endearing. (Probably because I don't have much of a filter either.)
And in this deleted scene from an episode of #CandidlyNicole, she gave a fellow salon-goer one of the best hair tips ever -- don't cut your hair after a breakup. In her own words, "The worst mistake girls make is getting a breakup and cutting their hair."
OMG. She's SO right.
I don't know what it is about ending a relationship that makes you want to hop on the makeover train -- but something about it makes it incredibly tempting to chop all your hair off and go for a different look entirely. It's like you think getting rid of your long locks will give you a fresh start or something -- but somehow the end result is never quite what you expect. And then not only do you find yourself trying to come to terms with your breakup, you also have to deal with trying to figure out how to style your new hair so you somewhat resemble yourself again.
Instead of going straight for the scissors and making a drastic change post-split, why not just throw in a fewhighlights, or maybe go a shade or two darker? At least color is an easy thing to fix if you aren't happy with it. And yes, hair grows back, but never as fast as we'd like. Or if you really are feeling the need for change, take off an inch or two (like Julianne Hough did after her breakup with Ryan Seacrest) or add some layers around your face instead of going for a bold move you can't undo.
A breakup is a tough enough adjustment without throwing bad hair days into the mix. And too much change all at once is never a good thing.
