metallic eye makeupThe metallic eye makeup "trend" has actually been around for a while now, but it shows no signs of disappearing, and for good reason: it's a flattering, totally accessible trend that will vamp up anyone's beauty look. You can totally try it -- and look great -- without turning yourself into a scary robot person (unless that's the look you're going for, in which case, more power to you, I say).

Here are three ways to try out the trend for yourself. All of them very easy to do. Let's start with a little something I like to call ...

Amy Adams1. Light and airy goddess

A perfect example of a low-key but still high-voltage spin on the look is Amy Adams' gorgeous coppereyeshadow at the Man of Steel premier the other night. Paired with simple mascara and a pretty, red lip, her eye makeup can serve as a perfect inspiration for us mere mortals, and it's super (HA! Get it?!) easy to recreate.

Plus, copper shades are so extra pretty in the summer.

Metallic products to try:

NYX Cream Eye Shadow in "Shimmery Copper" will give you a creamy, shimmery lid. ($5 at NastyGal.com)

Stila "Jezebel" eyeshadow is a glimmering coppery rose color. Beautiful! ($18 at Sephora.com)

2. Smoky silver for night

The models at Chanel's Spring 2013 show wore dark black eyeliner paired with silver shadow up to their eyebrows -- an edgy, glamorous look for the runway but definitely don't try this at home. However! Silver shadow and liner added to a smoky eye  can heighten a "night out" look just enough to really shine.

The quick-and-dirty instructions: Line your eyes with a black or dark gray liner, then smoke it up by adding some silver eyeliner and / or silver shadow right along the outer edges. Taylor Swift does the silver eyeliner /shadow look a lot, and she's smart to do so. It hot!

Metallic products to try:

Urban DecayUrban Decay's new Moondust Eyeshadow has some extra glittery sparkle, and it feels like a cream but goes on like a powder, so it creates a sexy, smooth, reflective look. "Moondust" is a rich, luscious silver. ($20 at UrbanDecay.com)

Their Glide-On eye pencils are also excellent: smooth and creamy but long-lasting, and they come in two different silvers. ($19 each)

3. Statement liner

I'm a big fan myself of a simple shadow, like a taupe or warm nude, paired with a metallic eyeliner. For a bolder look, use a thick line of silver or bright copper; for something more subtle, go for a thinner, slightly smudged line of a darker color liner flecked with some metal. Either way, your eyes will pop -- and I mean that in a good way.

Metallic products to try:

IllamasquaThe Illamasqua 4-Colour Liquid Metal Palette is a real splurge (in my book), but it's really worth it if you're serious about your metallic eyes. The colors are so richly pigmented, and you an do a lot with them, including using them as liner. ($46.50 at Sephora)

The Body Shop make a great metallic liner line, called the Eye Definer. Available in five shades, the liner is really smooth and blendable, and contains Vitamin E and other enriching ingredients so your skin will be happy too! ($11 each at TheBodyShop-Usa.com)

If you really just want to dabble, Physician's Formula makes a liquid liner in metallic black, you subtle thing, you. ($6.50 at Drugstore.com)

Can you see yourself in metallic eye makeup?
