Golden Globe Knockoff Dresses Will Turn Heads -- And Not in a Good Way

angelina jolie's golden globe dressJanuary and February are exciting months for lovers of fashion. It's awards season! We have the Golden Globes, the People's Choice, the Oscars, and whatever other ceremony that gives actors gold trophies for being awesome that's escaping me right now. But, sadly, it's all about to come to an end, and the black lace Givenchy Kool-Aid we've been sipping will be snatched away with it.

So, naturally, people, namely dress-makers, are trying to stretch this moment in time out for as long as they possibly can -- and they're doing so by making God-awful knockoffs of the dresses donned by celebs.

Yesterday morning, the Today show featured a segment called "Red Carpet for Less," and in it, they showcased dresses from prom-dress maker Faviana, who, incidentally, is notorious for creating copycats of designer dresses (they have a section on their website called "Dress Like a Star"). Some of the dresses featured on the show? Angelina Jolie's Versace, Jessica Alba's lavender Gucci, and Charlize Theron's Dior. Yes, already.

Fact that these dresses already exist aside, who would want to wear these things? Is there really someone out there who wouldn't feel completely ridiculous showing up somewhere in an replica of Angelina Jolie's (heinous) gown? It's so ... distinct. It's so ... not meant for anywhere other than the red carpet. It's so ... not thinking for yourself.

Look, I like ogling celebs' clothing just as much as the next gal, but dressing like them -- exactly like them -- is where I draw the line. Not only is it kind of creepy, it would completely take the fun out of picking out a dress of my own.

Check out the segment on the Today show.
