Celebrities dug out the hats and mittens from the backs of their closets in L.A. and headed to Park City, Utah over the weekend for the Sundance Film Festival. It's probably one of the coolest festivals around -- the stars always look so relaxed and cozy, somehow excited to have their guard down. But while everyone looked wintry-chic, no one knocked it out of the park on the red carpet.
We saw some cute hats, coats, and boots on stars out and about in town, showing off their street style, if you will, but when it came to posing in front of the step and repeat, there was little to no flare. Neutrals and blacks were the name of the game. I guess the rule is if you wear an over the top animal fur hat during the day, you gotta wear something plain and simple at night. Too bad.
Are You There Chelsea star, Laura Prepon, did just that. Totally and adorably funky one moment, 100 percent I-think-my-mom-has-that-sweater kind of boring the next.
Granted, it would be a little odd if a star went glam for this low-key festival, but still. AnnaLynne McCord, some 90210 the new class star, is the only one who went for it, and yeah, she looks a little desperate for attention and out of place in her red mini dress, but at least she tried.
There is, in theory, a happy medium between Laura and AnnaLynne, but no one really seemed to find it. Emily Blunt came close in her suede shift, but left something to be desired. Rashida Jones looked geeky-chic, but also a little like a greasy librarian, and Elizabeth Olsen channeled her older twin sisters and wore an oversized coat and scarf, managing to successfully hide her petite and well-toned figure.
No one really considers Sundance an opportunity to show off their fashion sense, so I suppose there's no harm and no foul in celebs playing it safe in Park City. I'm sure they were too busy doing awesome things like skiing, drinking, and sauna-ing with Robert Redford to care one bit if they wore a Gap pullover or a Balenciaga dress to their screenings. And good for them; everyone needs a little break from high-fi looks every now and again. Just, next time, maybe wear a little color? Just a little? Please?
