As we all know, Katy Perry isn't exactly known for playing it safe with her style. In fact, she could easily hold her own among some of the wackiest dressed celebs out there -- from Miley to Nicki to Gaga. Katy proved that once again when she hit up the opening of Britney Spears' new Las Vegas residency show at Planet Hollywood the other day ...
For some reason, she chose to wear an oversized, fake, iridescent football jersey -- sporting the number zero and the (tongue-in-cheek?) misspelled words "NU FRENZ" -- over a Carrie Bradshaw-esque white tutu, and school-girl thigh-highs paired with chunky motorcycle boots and a metallic pink baby backpack that collectively appeared to have been pilfered from the costuming department of 1995's Clueless. Even if this is something that was meant to happen in Vegas and stay there, it left most fashion critics thinking, "What the ...?!"
But others, who are slightly more on the cutting edge perhaps, might think Katy's absolutely brillz for busting out this nutty look. That's because according to Refinery29.com, the "streetwear trend" (i.e. jerseys) is hot and getting hotter. (Ew.) And I've also heard buzz that tulle skirts -- more specifically, tutus a la Carrie in the opening credits of Sex and the City, will soon be all the rage. I know.
Why in the world regular people think they can pull off that kind of look off is beyond me! A tutu is clearly NOT something most of us are meant to attempt in our daily lives, whether we're commuting to the office or hitting up the local Thai joint on date night.
All I'm saying is Katy Perry's kooky, perhaps ironic look is strange enough. Let's not all start thinking we can rock it, too. By the way, I see absolutely no reason to bring any grunge-era styles back into heavy rotation. Forget Vegas -- what happened in the '90s really needs to stay there!
