As we witnessed the wedding festivities unfold in Venice this weekend, we also watched as Amal Alamuddin -- the woman George Clooney is lucky to have snagged as his wife -- treated the canals like her personal runway. Every designer outfit she wore was more stunning than the last. Naturally, we wondered what this breathtaking and, more importantly, successful and intelligent woman would choose to wear when she actually walked down the aisle and said "I do" to one of Hollywood's most eligible bachelors.
We are delighted to report that -- no shock here -- Amal did not disappoint. Hello! gave us our first glimpse of the attorney on her day. Not only does she look every inch the gorgeous bride, she chose a gown that was not at all what we expected from her -- and that's a good thing!
Amal's image is that of a sophisticated career woman. Granted, she's only 36, but given her life experiences, she seems more mature. So don't kill me if I assumed she would wear a column dress or something similar -- no ruffles, no lace, not a single accessory. And I certainly didn't take her as a veil-wearing bride. I figured her hair would be styled in a classic French twist -- with maybe, maybe a small pearl barrette to keep it in place.
I was so wrong. Check out her romantic look:
Sigh. Amal went for an off-the-shoulder allover lace Oscar de la Renta design in cream. Vogue, which will of course wax poetic about her dress in a way I can only dream of doing, described it as "a mille-feuille of ivory tulle appliqued with 14 yards of Chantilly lace, its bodice hand embroidered with beading and crystals."

It makes perfect sense that Amal would choose something timeless over a fashion-forward gown since she and George made the decision to wed in an enchanting city. She looks spectacular.
Oh, and George doesn't look too shabby, either.
What do you think of Amal's wedding gown?
