Are Kylie Jenner's Big Lips Really Just Makeup? We Pulled Out the Lip Liner and Tried It

Kylie Jenner's lips have become the second-most famous feature in the Kardashian-Jenner clan. But, the problem is, no one seems to be able to get a handle on how in the hell the youngest member of their clan went from having average, pretty lips to an absolutely ginormous pucker that makes Angelina Jolie's look thin. We're in luck -- sort of. The Kardashian family's makeup artist (of course they have one) recently revealed that Kylie DID NOT get plastic surgery to achieve those lips. No fillers, nada. And she revealed the makeup tricks Kylie reportedly uses to get that outrageously full pout. Naturally, we had to try them out to see if we should be spending our entire paycheck at Sephora -- or if these "makeup tricks" are just there to trick us.

Makeup artist Rob Scheppy said that all rumors about Kylie's plastic surgery are "ridiculous" and that the teen is just really, really good at doing her own face -- and knows a few tricks of the trade. When it comes to getting a bigger pout, he says Kylie's lips are created "using expertly applied lip liner and lip balm."

Hmmm. As a '90s teen, I know a little bit about lip liner -- specifically, horrific brown lip liner that you didn't bother blending into your nude lips. I guess my lips looked larger, but they also looked like I had just sneaked a chocolate cake down my throat at midnight.

More from The Stir: Kylie Jenner's Huge Lips Can Finally Be Explained

Possibly because of the '90s, I haven't used a lip liner since 1999. So, just for kicks, I decided to try out Kylie's makeup trick for bigger lips and see how it works.

Here are my naked lips without color:

I applied three products: C.O. Bigelow Rose Salve, which is a fantastic rose-smelling lip balm, Avon's ColorTrend lipliner in nude, and -- because I remember reading in some magazine years ago that you should dab gloss in the center of your lips -- a bit of Lancome Juicy Tubes lip gloss in Hallucination.

Here's the final, gooey product:

Aside from looking more polished and a lot more sticky, I honestly can't say I look at these two photos and see much of a difference in size. My husband was also perplexed and unable to tell the difference. Obviously, I'm not a makeup expert, so it's possible I did something wrong -- was I supposed to go darker on the liner and lighter on the gloss? But it's going to take a bit of convincing to make me believe makeup is the holy grail of inflated pouts.

What do you think? Are Kylie's lips the result of lip liner and balm?
