You may not have realized it while you were witnessing it, but last night, during The Real Housewives of Orange County, television history was made: Gretchen Rossi wore what could be the most heinous outfit since the invention of reality television.
If you saw the show, you know what I'm talking about -- the white hot pants, bright pink turtleneck, pink and white striped socks, white furry boots, and pink bow in her hair. It was a hot sartorial disaster, and, frankly, it left me confused. I couldn't wrap my head around what I was seeing. I felt aesthetically violated, and I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out what the hell month it was in the scene. I mean, a turtleneck would indicate cool weather, but short shorts suggest otherwise.
By no means do I consider The Real Housewives of the O.C. to be the epitome of sophistication and class when it comes to style, but, dude, Gretchen, lovely girl that she is, took things to a new level of cheesiness last night.

To be perfectly honest, I'm not, nor have I ever been, the biggest fan of the color pink. Yes, some people do look great in the color -- including Gretchen herself -- but, I don't know, I think I have some association with the shade and Paris Hilton in her heyday or something. Whatever. Regardless of my disdain for the color, I do think it's possible to wear it in a tasteful manner. Gretchen's outfit last night was not in a tasteful manner. Unless it was Opposite Day.
Pink is one of those colors that teeters a fine line. Like, if it's color-blocked with red, or worn simply on its own, great. Totally works. But when you get too matchy-matchy -- and wear furry boots, shorts, and a turtleneck -- it just gets tacky.
Gretchen clearly loves the color pink -- she talks about it all the time -- so, she should do her, and wear the crap out of it. But, seriously, she needs to just check herself once in a while. Or maybe Slade can do it for her.
