Kate Middleton has got to be one excited Duchess coming into this weekend. Hello! Sunday is her one-year anniversary to hubba hubby Prince William! Does it not feel like JUST yesterday we were all sipping tea at an ungodly hour watching the duo get married? Remember the first glimpse of the dress?! I swoon.
The Duchess geared up for the big anniversary weekend with a walk down the red carpet at the premiere of African Cats Wednesday night with her hubby. Of course, she looked GORGE as usual, flawless in a neutral-colored, quarter-sleeve dress. I wasn't a HUGE fan of the peplum, but it was hardly noticable next to the amazing embellishment at the neck and sleeves.
Get this: The dress didn't come with that embellishment around the neck. Nope, when you see it in the British designer Matthew Williamson's collection -- the neck is left plain. A woman that adds pizazz to her own clothes? A woman after my own heart!
OK, so obviously Kate didn't add the detailing herself. I'm smarter than that. Clearly she just had an idea, mentioned it to the designer, and they ran with it.
However -- we can all totally take a page out of Kate's stylebook with this. How many times have you seen a cute little number at the commonly more inexpensive spots like Forever 21 or H&M, and thought it would be PERFECT if it just had a little more oomph? For me, it's probably three times a week (OK, so I have a bit of a shopping problem).
Simply put: don't be afraid to buy simple pieces and jazz 'em up yourself. Thanks to a magical little site called YouTube, there are loads of tutorials online for everything from sewing on a rosette or two onto a top to hemming up a skirt on your own.
The best part of getting creative? If you DIY jazz up your ensemble, it becomes something unique to your closet and your closet alone. Who knows, perhaps soon the paparazzi will be following you around, too!
