Scarlett Johanson updo We Bought a Zoo premiereLast night, Scarlett Johansson stepped out on the red carpet, looking stunning as always at the NYC premiere for her new movie with Matt Damon, We Bought a Zoo. Johansson wore a wowser black, two-piece Dolce & Gabbana dress and this glamorous retro hairstyle. Loved her whole look! Classic chic.

Want to know how Scarlett got those retro French rolls with a modern twist? Well, let's let her professional hairstylist share with you exactly how it's done. Step-by-step hair how-to tutorial after the jump!

To achieve Scarlett’s 1950s-inspired updo, celebrity hairstylist, Duffy for Sebastian Professional, looked to "silver screen sirens who are strong, sexy, independent women." Perfect! If any actress today can pull off the sexy, strong siren, it's Scarlett Johansson!

Here are the steps to getting Scarlett's red carpet hair:

1. Wash hair with a moisturizing shampoo and follow with a moisturizing conditioner for healthy-looking style.

2. Towel dry hair and distribute a light-conditioning style whip through the lengths of the hair, beginning at the roots and moving toward the ends. Rough dry the hair until the product is completely absorbed.

3. Spritz the hair with a lightweight treatment styler and use a one-inch curling iron to curl the entire head, starting at the front. Once the hair has cooled, brush through the waves.

4. Create a side part and separate the hair into four equal sections around the head, starting at the crown and moving downwards. Backcomb each section and spray the roots with an ultra-firm hairspray to hold in place.

5. Working against the part, twist each section horizontally against the head around both the sides and back and secure with pins. Allow the wave to show through the front section.

6. Finish with heat protectant and clean any loose ends or fly-aways.

Looks absolutely beautiful on Scarlett, brings out her lovely facial features, and lets that gorgeous dress do all the talking.

Are you a fan of retro hairstyles? Will you try this one?
