When beloved celebrity makeup artist Pat McGrath, whose famous devotees include Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Aniston, released her first-ever beauty product, a gold shadow called Gold 001, product junkies went crazy, and the pigment sold out immediately.

While it may still be tough to get your hands on McGrath's metallic shadow, you can still score a gorgeous gold eye just in time for all of those holiday parties that are bound to creep up on your calendar.

Kasey Yvonne, a makeup artist based in Sarasota, Florida, offers up her tips for giving your lids the perfect metallic treatment.

1. Prime Time

For starters, you'll want to prime the lids to create a smooth canvas for the look. "There are two different ways to do a primer," Yvonne tells The Stir. "You could use a concealer as a primer, an actual eyeshadow primer, or I sometimes like to use the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk to give the lid a lighter base so the shadow really pops." She then sets the primer with a light matte shadow which will help the other shades blend together.

2. Warm It Up

"Using a transition shadow between the socket of the eye and the brow bone, I would use a shadow to warm up the eye and give more tonality to the overall look," Yvonne explains. "Using just one shadow all over (the lid) can make the look very flat."

3. Get Golden

For the third step, Yvonne takes her shadow brush and sprays it with a touch of MAC's Prep + Prime Fix+ and packs Urban Decay's Half Baked Eyeshadow all over the lid. But be careful, she cautions -- you don't want to soak the brush, just mist it. "The dampness of the brush will almost make the shadow last as long as a cream shadow, but still dry with a beautiful velvet finish," says Yvonne.

4. Line Up

When it's time to line the lids, Yvonne loves a cat eye. "I like to do my liner before I add any depth to the outer corners of the eyes," she says. "Sometimes the eyeliner is enough depth, especially for smaller eyes, but if you want to smoke it out a little bit on the outer corners, the eyeliner really gives you a guide on where to place it."

5. Smoke Screen

To "smoke it out," take a dark brown shadow mixed with a dot of black and apply it almost into the crease. Keep this shadow on the outer edges of your lids and blend it out really well. Then, take the transitional shadow you first used to add warmth and blend that with the dark brown shadow to soften the look.

6. Gimme More

For an extra shot of gold, Yvonne suggests spraying a pencil brush with the MAC Prep + Prime Fix+ and use it to apply a hint of gold shadow under the bottom lash line.

7. Lash Out

If you're going for a dramatic eye look, up the ante with some false lashes. Yvonne loves the House of Lashes "Iconic" style, which she blends with her real lashes using a light coat of mascara.

How far will you go for great skin? Botox? Fillers? Expensive face creams? No need! Beauty blogger Tracy Kiss says she's found the key to gorgeous skin ... semen. Yes, yes, you did read that correctly.

Tracy, you see, has a skin condition called rosacea, which makes her skin look red and feel "hot and tight." And she says nothing cures it like a good semen facial. I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP.

"I think a lot of people are concerned with the thought of putting semen on their face, but actually it's a very natural and healthy thing to do," she assures us in her tutorial. Because obviously there's a tutorial.

Apparently Tracy first posted about her, er, unusual facial method a year ago or so, and got quite a reaction. (Surprise!) So, she decided to post another video, fully explaining the process:

Well, it must be said Tracy makes some interesting points!

She says knows "exactly what goes into" the semen she gets from her friend, a guy who deposits his special sauce into a plastic Chinese takeout container and delivers it to Tracy's door. (After all, what are friends for?)

"I know there are no added chemicals, no harshness. It's as active and live and natural as you can possibly have," she says. "Semen builds babies ... they come out very soft and have beautiful skin, and it leaves my skin nice and soft."

Well, huh. I mean, babies SURE ARE SOFT, TRACY. You got us there!

I love how matter-of-fact she is, right? In the beginning of the "tutorial," she allllllmost has me convinced this is not a totally nutty thing to do. (No pun intended, honest!) But then she starts showing us a close-up of the "donation" ... and ... yuck.

"I find a circular motion works best," she says at one point. Also this helpful hint: "Definitely try to use it as fresh as possible."

The fact that she uses her "friend's" semen just ... completely ... actually I'm honestly at a loss for words. There's no way that's a good, or healthy, or safe idea. I almost wonder if she is just trolling us all. Can she be for real?

Here's how:

According to Villagran, all you need is clean hair, gel, glitter, a bowl, and a brush.

"You mix the gel and as much glitter as desired in the bowl, then carefully apply it on your roots to create the glitter root effect," she explains. "It is also very easy to remove since it's only applied with gel. Simply, wash your hair!"

Here's more confirmation that beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder. While many women associate freckles with sun damage and go to great lengths to remove dark spots, one gal has created Freck Yourself, a cosmetic product that allows you to give yourself freckles. Say what?

Creator Remy Brixton says she's always associated those haphazard little spots with "unapologetic natural beauty." So the clear-faced founder decided to launch a Kickstarter aimed at bringing her stencil-and-formula method to the masses.

Will self-applied freckles really be the next big beauty trend? We're not so sure. It's hard not to think about that Brady Bunch episode in which poor Jan scrubs her face raw with lemons in an attempt to rid herself of those pesky dots.

But if you're interested in trying it, you can acquire a kit, which comes with 72 self-adhesive stencils and a rollerball of formula similar to sunless tanner, by making a pledge through Kickstarter. The freckle patterns look natural and last for 48 hours, according to Brixton.

For girls who've long loathed these little facial anomalies, this product may make them appreciate their natural beauty. Still, it's hard to imagine this truly taking off, especially because Brixton is seeking $215,000 in funding. (That's a lot of freckles!)

You know you want rainbow hair. It's like an ability to become a unicorn, a pegasus, the ultimate ROYGBIV of enlightenment. Secret rainbow hair is even more magical. It's hidden and peeks out from under the top layers of your hair like a burst of happiness.

Typically, your hair would be all one color, and then you would make magic with the under layers.

To get this enchanting look: Head to the salon. Well, that is, if you don't think you can do this at home. OR, you can DIY after choosing the colors you want to include in your rainbow. Go wild! You can sort of hide this look from your conservative boss as long as you don't wear your hair up or flip it too much.

Deirdre Novella, owner and Master Stylist at Badlands Salon in Brooklyn, New York, tells The Stir exactly how to get the whimsical style -- ideally, with the help of a friend to help apply the bleach and color.

What you'll need: Powder bleach, 40 volume developer, two or more "fantasy rainbow" colors of choice (Manic Panic is a good brand, as well as Ion Color), comb, clips, tin foil, cape, towel, saran wrap, applicator brush

1. Keep it separated. Section out your hair with a comb from the top of your ear around the back to the top of your other ear and secure in a bun on top of your head with clips. 

2. Get snipping. Cut 4-inch by 8-inch sections of tin foil -- approximately 10 total foils. 

3. Mix it up. In a plastic bowl, mix the developer into the bleach powder until the consistency is like yogurt. Use a plastic spoon, never metal. 

4. Try a little #teamwork. Put a towel on your neck, or a cape; then, starting at your nape, comb a 1-inch section of hair and clip the rest up. Have your friend begin to apply the bleach with an applicator brush in 1-inch sections, starting underneath and working your way up. Make sure that all the hair is saturated with the bleach. When done, cover hair with saran wrap. 

Depending on your hair color, bleach should stay on for only as long as it takes to lift your hair to a yellow color. You can use a blow dryer to heat it up to speed the time but make sure bleach doesn't dry out. Light hair takes less time.

5. Wash and dry. When color is lifted, rinse bleach out, shampoo, and blow dry hair. Hair needs to be dry to put on the rainbow colors. 

6. Let your creativity flow. Begin by separating two-inch sections of hair, painting on your color and wrapping each section in the tin foil. This is so each section doesn't bleed onto the next. Alternate colors in whatever pattern you wish. 

7. Chill, then rinse. When done, let color process for 40 minutes, then rinse out one by one and shampoo and condition (best done in the shower). Color will last longer the less you shampoo.

Looking for a way to add a subtle blast of color to your brunette locks? Let us introduce you to the cherry bomb ombre -- cherry bombre for short -- in which shades of red are woven into your natural hair color. It's a little bit sweet, a whole lotta subtle, and totally gorgeous.

"Cherry bomb ombre" was invented by famous hair colorist Beth Minardi, who's worked with such celebs as Brad Pitt, Julianne Moore, Cameron Diaz, and Evan Rachel Wood. She knows her stuff, in other words.

Where some current hair trends use otherwordly shades or even glitter to turn heads, cherry bombre relies on lowlights for a subtly explosive pop of color.

And while red might seem like a weird choice, "the brunette's natural undertone is red," explains Stephanie Johnson, a Dallas-based licensed beauty professional, makeup artist and trained cosmetology educator. "The various reds -- red, copper, berry -- really make this fun and offer a wide variety of options."

Most brown-haired gals are good candidates for the cherry bombre,  says Johnson, since a red shade with a warm or cool undertone can be chosen according to how it looks with your skin.

But if you're super-pale or just the opposite -- super-ruddy -- proceed with caution. "The level of the darkness might sallow you out," Johnson notes.

Natural blondes should stick to a lighter color range to avoid looking washed out. "Too dark and it can make you look older," she explains.

For "virgin" hair that hasn't been previously dyed, Johnson gets a cherry bomb effect by using a balayage technique and color melt, "which blends the color by feathering seams," she explains. That way, the red looks subtle and natural, with less noticeable regrowth lines.

Don't like it? Don't worry. "It's much easier to go back to all over brunette than a blonde ombre would," says Johnson.

In the history of cinema, we don't think a braid has ever been duplicated as often as the style Jennifer Lawrence wears as Katniss in the Hunger Games franchise.

The braid is completely badass, as is the character's makeup look. How does she get that perfectly rosy but natural-looking pout?

Thankfully, we have Wendy Rose Gould to the rescue! As a beauty expert for Latest-Hairstyles.com, she breaks down Katniss's style in clear, easy steps. So let's get down to business, shall we?

The Hair

"This is a relatively straightforward hairstyle. But to recreate the Katniss braid, you may want to get some hair extensions," Gould says. "We’re using Effortless Exensions Slip It On Hair, which is temporary and easy to work with. If you don’t need to add length, skip to step three."

1. Apply Serum

5. Fishtail Braid

Now for the most arduous part of this hair tutorial: creating your fishtail braid (and it’s not even difficult). To do this, divide your hair into two sections, then drag an outer piece of hair from one section over to the other section. Pull tight, then repeat on the opposite side. Continue pulling tight as you braid the length of your hair, securing with a clear elastic on the end. Make sure all your hair is draped to one side of your head (secure with bobby pins if necessary), and then pull out sections of hair for that “piece-y” and lived-in look. You can use a texturizer or more serum to get those strands. Also, twist each of these pieces to keep them separated.

Now that your hair is on fleek, let's get to that classic Katniss face.

The Makeup

"In three words, Katniss’s makeup is natural, dewy, and bronzed," Gould shares.

Face First

"I first applied Etude House Precious Mineral BB Cream to my skin," Gould notes. "I then applied the bronzer in Paula Choice’s Blush It On Contour Palette with a bushy brush onto the apples of my cheeks. I also applied the bronzer to my forehead and chin, slowly building color. From the same palette and with the same brush, I added highlighter to the apples of my cheeks and the center of my forehead, then followed up with the darkest blush to add color onto my cheeks."

A Little Lid Love

"For my eyes, I used Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette," Gould explains. "I filled in my brows with Faint, then applied Naked 2 across my eyelids. I used Faint in my eye creases to create dimension, and blended out with W.O.S. The colors you choose for this eye look will depend on your coloring. In general, stick with a matte brown that’s darker than your skin for the eyelids, followed by a slightly darker brown in the creases. The blending color should match the color of your skin."

But wait, there's a finishing touch. "I also applied tre’StiQue’s Swiss Chocolate Line, Sharpen & Smudge Eye Pencil to my upper lash line and blended with an angled eyeliner brush, then threw on some Sigma Sinuosity mascara," Gould notes.

A Moment on the Lips

"For lips, I dabbed on a pinkish nude lacquer and blended it into my lips with my pinkie," Gould shares.

Adele has not only captivated us with the song and video for "Hello" and her long-awaited album 25, which comes out today, but also with her beauty. That cat eye, those lashes, the perfect lip -- Adele's look is perfection, so we wouldn't blame you for wanting to copy it.

Makeup artist Sharon Becker of SB Beauty in New York City has created gorgeous looks on brides and on models in magazines. She shared her tips on how to get Adele's look.

"Adele's look is very heavy," said Becker. "It's not a light touch at all. While she glows with internal and external beauty, and her song 'When We Were Young' is killing me, she still goes for a very strong vintage look with matte skin, heavy winged liner, power brow, and strong lips. It's a look. She's a performer, and a tall woman, so she can pull it off at the same time. Also, she's ADELE. The rest of us may want to choose one feature."

Matte face: Start with matte primer. "Stay Matte Primer by Rimmel and No7 Beautifully Matte Make Up Base are both under $13 and work well," Becker shares. "Then, use a matte foundation -- I like NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat Foundation ($7.49, Ulta) and Makeup Forever Mat Velvet ($35, Sephora). Blend smoothly and perfectly -- this is not the time to cover spots, but to use your face as a canvas. Set with loose powder."

For the eyes: Becker advises making it simple. How to do that: Start with a cream shadow that doubles as a lid primer, in a shade slightly lighter than your skin color. "Use your ring finger if your nails are short, or a small synthetic brush to spread a generous amount (not too much) all over your lid, from lash to brow," she explains. "Blend blend blend. Set with loose powder."

As for what products to grab? "I love the MAC Pro Paint Pots ($22, MAC) in Bare Study and Painterly -- the best texture I have found on the market," Becker says. "Squeeze the lid tight to keep it fresh inside. Use a slim eye contour brush to stroke a light beige color in the crease, from outer corner to near the nose. Adele has a huge eyelid, which lends itself to shadow. The rest of us mortals have to carve this space with contour shadow. Blend blend blend!"

Finally, it kinda goes without saying that liquid liner is the star in this look. "If you're new to doing liquid liner, grab a drugstore liquid liner pen to experiment -- Maybelline Master Precise ($5.79, Target), or go upscale with Nars's new Eyeliner Stylo ($27, Sephora)," Becker notes. Here's how to apply: 

The brows: Adele does a major brow. If you don't have much brow, or experience building a brow, you may benefit from using a stencil -- it's so easy once you get it, but it still takes practice and may be different from your regular look. "Again, this is where you pick and choose your look," Becker says. "You can go with Adele's brows and liner but soft lip, or the big lip with just the brow. Anastasia Beauty Express For Brows and Eyes ($39.50, Ulta) is a complete kit, Sephora Fall in Line Brow Stencil Kit ($12, Sephora) is just the stencil and applicator, and you can use shadows you already own."

For the lashes: "Warm up your lash curler with your blow-dryer, test it on the back of your hand to make sure it's not too hot, and spend two minutes curling your lashes," Becker advises. "Really get in there. Do three to four coats of mascara, top and bottom. If you want black in your waterline, go ahead and do a waterproof black eyeliner in your waterline to complete the eye look. Bring it all the way across."

Matte lip: "Unless you are getting up onstage, or it's New Year's Eve, choose one feature [to emphasize]," Becker says. "Current matte looks with a variety of shades and textures include: Nars Matte Velvet Lip Pencil ($26, Nars), Tarte Lipsurgence Matte Lip Tint ($24, Tarte), and Bite Beauty Cashmere Lip Creme ($28, Sephora)."

Tattoos are pretty mainstream these days. About 40 percent of Americans have at least one. But the reason WHY someone gets a tiny rose inked on his or her ankle while someone else chooses several full-color sleeves comes down to more than time, money, or an artistic bent. Women who get four or more tattoos may be trying to cope with emotional trauma.

Texas Tech University sociology professor Jerome Koch, PhD, has been studying body art for YEARS. But the findings of his newest research, which will be published next year in The Social Science Journal, surprised even him.

When he surveyed over 2,300 college-aged women (mostly freshmen and sophomores), Koch found that those with four or more tattoos had the highest self-esteem. But they also had the highest number of past suicide attempts.

What, exactly, does that mean?

"We can only speculate," Koch tells The Stir. "But we think that these women may be using body art as a way to physically and emotionally reclaim their bodies."

It's similar, he says, to the way a breast cancer survivor chooses to get a tattoo after a mastectomy. "After that fourth tattoo, body art becomes a visible part of someone's identity," Koch explains.

The study didn't get details on the types of loss participants were dealing with, although Koch is curious to investigate that in further studies. He'd also like to explore whether body piercing is similarly used by women as a coping mechanism.

He suspects it is, since a study he did in 2010 found that women who have four or more tattoos OR seven or more piercings (or just one piercing in an intimate place) were much more likely to smoke weed, to drink heavily, to occasionally partake in illegal drugs, or to have been arrested. (In other words, women with tattoos and piercings showed similar backgrounds.)

Those numbers -- four tattoos or seven+ piercings -- aren't entirely random, BTW.

"People with multiple piercings or tattoos see themselves differently," Koch explains. "But with everyone getting body art these days, you need more and more [body art] to distinguish yourself."

Yet another one of Dr. Koch's studies found that women are more likely than men to get a tattoo REMOVED as a way of disassociating from their past.

But apparently, getting inked can offer the same benefit.

Is your hairbrush getting a little funky? We all comb out the hair that gets stuck in the bristles, but have you ever actually washed your brush? We asked board-certified Laser and Skin Surgery Center of New York dermatologist and physician and Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center Jessica J. Krant, MD, MPH, for her advice on cleaning our hairbrushes.

How often you should clean your brushes:

This depends on what kind of hair you're brushing. "Hairbrushes need varied cleaning schedules depending on what’s in your hair when you use them," Dr. Krant says. She recommends cleaning your brush every four to six months if you're brushing only clean, dry hair with no products. In other words, this is a good schedule for your children's hairbrushes, provided you always keep their hair squeaky-clean.

Things are different for us grown-ups. We're more likely to be using products in our hair. And we're also more likely to be going a few days between washes to avoid stressing our hair. "If you tend to brush your hair when it is dirtier, oilier, or after styling products have been used (for example, if you use them while styling), then they should be washed every month or two," Dr. Krant says.

How to wash your hairbrushes:

Do you need a special cleaner for hairbrushes? Of course not! Just use your shampoo -- good enough for your hair, and darn well good enough for your brushes. Scrub and rinse well, then let dry thoroughly, bristles down on a towel.

And remember to pull out hair from your bristles every time you use it, not just when you notice there's more hair than bristles in your brush.
