If you are beyond ready to leave winter behind and step into spring, you're in good company. While it may be too soon to completely thaw out depending on which part of the country you live, we can all benefit from a little warmer weather beauty therapy.

Spring makeup is rolling out and it's so, so pretty. Soft, shimmering shades await in the form of palettes, shadows, blushes, and lipsticks. The only downside? You're going to want them all.

11 Bafflingly Bizarre Beauty Practices Used Throughout History

Post by Jacqueline Burt Cote.

tapewormWe've all done some crazy things to ourselves in the name of beauty, and there's no question that questionable cosmetic practices absolutely exist today (vampire face lift, anyone?). But even the most eyebrow-raising modern beauty methods pale in comparison to some of the truly insane methods women have used throughout history to look their best -- or at least what they thought was their best!

Seriously, if you think the concept of Botox injections is nuts, that's just because you don't know what the ancient Romans used for mouthwash. (Hint: You don't REALLY want to know. Except you do!)

Hollywood's elite came seriously dressed to impress for the 2016 Academy Awards, and everyone's beauty look was totally on point. We're not sure we can remember another year where each and every actress who graced the red carpet pulled off this kind of elegance.

We'll probably never be able to afford the haute couture gowns we saw on the movie industry's biggest night, but the beauty looks are totally attainable --with a little guidance, of course.

Gwyneth Paltrow's New Organic Goop Skin-Care Line Is Safe for Everyone (Who Can Afford It)

Post by Liz Alterman.

Gwyneth Goop Who wouldn't want to have flawless celebrity skin? Well, now you can get closer to achieving Gwyneth Paltrow's gorgeous glow than ever before! The actress and purveyor of all things Goop-y has just launched her new organic vegan skin-care line. And, as you'd imagine, it's going to cost you!

But, seriously, we're talking about a woman whose holiday gift guide included a $40 Rosewood Handle Truffle Slicer. (You know how pesky those truffles can be when they see you coming toward them with just any old slicer, or, heaven forbid, a regular old knife!)

But we suppose if you're eating truffles so frequently that you require a special slicer, this collection, featuring six products, may be reasonably priced in your opinion. Plus, we should know better than to think we'd find these beauty potions, crafted in partnership with Juice Beauty, on sale at our local CVS, right? Duh.

So just what's the Academy Award winner hocking now? Enriching Face Oil, for one thing. (Wait, I thought we were trying to minimize facial oil. So confused! Help, Gwynnie!) It'll set you back $110 per ounce. Why so pricey? Because poet's daffodil, one the magic elixer's ingredients, does not come cheap!

More from The Stir: How to Get the Most Stunning Oscar Beauty Looks

According to the Goop website, the former Mrs. Chris Martin "developed every product to her own exacting standards." Further, a third-party independent study of 32 women between the ages of 35 and 65 was conducted "to validate the efficacy of the goop by Juice Beauty formulas."

Hmmm. Will fewer than three dozen women be enough to convince you to try these products? Gwyneth is banking on it!

What inspired the actress and mom of two to move into the skin-care biz, you ask? Her commitment to clean and chemical-free living, of course. As she wrote of her products, "We literally did not rest until we had a set of six products that are, quite simply, perfect. Safe enough for our daughters, and powerful enough for those of us who have maybe spent too much time in the sun."

Of course, it sounds great to us, as do most things Gwyneth champions (with the exception of vagina steaming). If only you didn't have to be a Hollywood A-lister to afford it!

Of course, you can head to the nail salon, too. Get creative and further inspired by these looks.

Lady Tattoo Artists We Love: Lara Scotton

Post by Michele Zipp.

lara scotton tattoo artistTattoo artist Lara Scotton moved to the United States in 2011. Originally from Italy, Lara is a truly talented artist and has that Italian charm and accent one cannot help but be smitten with. Her work is intricate and beautiful -- from her lettering and mandalas to flowers and the Asian art influences.

She can do any style, and yet once you become familiar with her work, there is a definite style that stands out. I spoke to Lara about her work and also sharing just a few of her gorgeous tattoos.

The Stir: How did you get into tattooing?

Lara: I was in the tattoo environment since I was 16 years old. Piercing came first; I start working as a piercer and then opened a shop with my friends. I spent a year managing the shop, doing piercing and eventually I started tattooing. That happened right after some friends asked me, "Why don’t you start tattooing? Aren’t you curious to try out, at least?" And so I did. Since that moment, I never stopped. Spending lot of years watching people working and being surrounded by tattooers, it definitely made it easier.

lara scotton tattoo

The Stir: What was the first tattoo you got?

Lara: The idea of my first tattoo was never completed (luckily!). I had this crazy idea to get snowflakes all over my body, and I started with just one on my arm. It was very pretty, with light blue shading. I ended up hating it though, and after a month, I covered it with black bands.

The Stir: Share a good story about a tattoo you have done.

Lara: Every story is unique. Sometimes it's just about the bond that tattoo creates between me and my client. Honestly, I can’t really pick one.

The Stir: Have you ever tattooed yourself?

Lara: Years ago, me and my best friend got little hearts on our fingers. It is a super light color -- she couldn’t show it because of her job. I let her try on me first and she was so excited that she [could] barely hold the machine. I eventually finished by myself. I was enough lucky to start tattooing on friends; I’ve never had the necessity to tattoo myself. It is pretty uncomfortable.

The Stir: Who and what influences you?

Everything that can inspire me does have an impact on work. I am inspired by art, traveling, photography, architecture, and people. My biggest influence of style definitely comes from my teachers, the people that actually introduced me into tattooing.

Lara Scotton currently works at Daredevil Tattoo in NYC and also travels all over the world doing guest spots at various shops and tattoo conventions.

It's a Snap: The Quick Trick That'll Save You Money on Razors

Post by Caroline Olney.

Shaving is an all-around bad time -- not only are you thiiiiis close to gushing blood at any given moment, but it's also no fun to drop $20 on razors every few months. We're not sure what to do about complaint #1, but complaint #2 we might be able to help with: There's a secret way to sharpen your razors to get double (or triple! or quadruple!) the number of shaves out of them.

The trick is this: Grab a pair of jeans and run the razor backwards 10-20 times going down the pant leg and then backwards 10-20 times in the other direction. (You're never shaving your pant leg -- you're pushing the razor in the other direction, not pulling it up in a shaving motion.)

More from The Stir: It's a Snap: This Simple Cleaning Trick Can Rescue Dirty Suede

This works because the relatively rough grain of denim smooths out nicks in cheap blades. That's why you go in two directions -- the threads in jeans run at a diagonal, so switching directions will smooth the blade from every angle.

You'll hear stories of people using cheap, disposable razors for six months or more this way -- which means you can start spending $20 a year on razors instead of $20 every few months.

What to Wear for a Presentation

Post by Elaine Yu.

what to wear presentation

If you’re getting ready to make a presentation at work, school, or a charity function, wear color! I always recommend strong colors to my clients for their presentations because it commands attention and keeps the audience focused on you as the speaker. If you can, do some research and find out the setting of your meeting beforehand. This way, you’ll make sure that your outfit doesn’t clash with the surroundings and background.

I’ve created two outfits -- one budget friendly and one splurge worthy -- to get you ready for your next presentation. Be sure to figure out your outfit before the big day so you can focus on what you’ll say instead of what you’re going to wear. Good luck with your presentation!

Presentation -- Budget Friendly

Ivanka Trump makes some beautiful dresses for work, and I love the classic style of this coral A-line dress with cap sleeves that give you just enough coverage. The nude d’Orsay pumps with ankle straps are both modern and delicate. Don’t you just love them? The soft leopard print tote bag gives some punch and interest to the outfit. Our accessory is a simple triple-row pendant necklace, and for outerwear a white linen blazer to wear if you need an extra layer.

More from The Stir: What to Wear for Moms' Night Out

Presentation -- Splurge Worthy

Karen Millen makes some beautiful dresses. If you can swallow the splurge-worthy price, invest in this red dress because it’s a classic piece that won’t go out of style. Pair it with nude heels to elongate your legs and keep the focus on you. A bright floral-printed tote adds some pattern to your outfit while transporting your laptop, essential items, and presentation notes. How do you feel about combining two contrasting colors? I love how the turquoise colors of the stones on the necklace stand out against the red of the dress and pick up the blues in the tote bag. Outfits do not always have to be matchy matchy! And finally, if you need something to wear over the dress, throw on this white linen blazer by J.Crew. It’s a piece that you’ll wear all summer long for both casual and business occasions.

The Non-Surgical Nose Job: Is It Really the Magic Fix?

$

Post by Stephanie Booth.

nonsurgical nose job before and after

If you follow Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Williams on Instagram, then you know she just got something called a non-surgical nose job. This immediately got us thinking: A) Who videos their own procedure? (Because, you know, she did. Ouch!) And B) Uh, is this alternative to rhinoplasty as rainbows-and-unicorns as it sounds?

Just to get you up to speed, a non-surgical nose job is an outpatient procedure that involves a series of filler injections. Porsha's cosmetic dermatologist explained to People that it's not meant to "craft" the perfect nose, but simply to shape what you already have.

The Stir asked Richard Swift, MD, FACS, a board-certified plastic surgeon in New York, to, um, fill us in.

Who's a good candidate for a non-surgical nose job?

"A non-surgical rhinoplasty is typically performed on patients with non-severe nasal deformities, minor irregularities, or if they have had a previous rhinoplasty for a touch-up," explains Dr. Swift.

How long does the procedure take?

Super-fast, apparently. Dr. Swift tells The Stir that the average procedure is done within 45 minutes, including time to numb the area with topical cream applied by the doctor.

Does it hurt like the dickens?

It's not like childbirth, if that's what you're thinking.

"It's not considered a particularly painful procedure because the patient is numb while the doctor is injecting," explains Dr. Swift. "And for added comfort, most products contain lidocaine, which is a local numbing agent."

Afterward, you may experience some minor bruising and swelling around the injection area. But "in most instances," assures Dr. Swift, "the swelling goes away within 24–48 hours post-injection."

Will the effects last forever?

Unfortunately, not that long. But "depending on the type of filler used, it can last six months to a year," says Dr. Swift.

Well, if it doesn't last forever, then how is it better than going "under the knife"?

It's less invasive, obviously, and less extensive, and because of that, less expensive. And not only is it less painful and with a shorter recovery time, says Dr. Swift, but "you get to see what the end result of a rhinoplasty would look like before actually having one." If you like the results, then you can go permanent.

More from The Stir: 5 Celebrities Who Shouldn't Have Gotten Nose Jobs (PHOTOS)

Is there anyone who really shouldn't get this done?

The best candidates are really those with only minor issues or who've already had a nose job and just need a teeny-tiny touch-up, says Dr. Swift. If you've got a deviated septum, say, or breathing problems, you'd be better off with a traditional rhinoplasty.

Still trying to make up your mind if this is for you?

Take a look at some of the stunning results that have recently popped up on Instagram and see if they change your mind:

Lady Tattoo Artists We Love: Angela de Rosette

Post by Michele Zipp.

angela de rosetteAngela de Rosette began tattooing in 2008, but this art school grad was interested in tattoos from a young age. Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, Angela moved to New York City in 1997. She tattoos alongside some of the best tattoo artists in the world at East Side Ink and Graceland Brooklyn. Her work is simply beautiful.

Angela's style reflects her Russian roots, but she is a skilled artist and her custom pieces show off her immense talent. From American traditional to black and gray, from nature to architecture, from bright colors to fine lines and shading, Angela's beautiful work has become coveted by many. We spoke with her about the art of tattooing and her place in it.

The Stir: How did you get into tattooing?

Angela: I have been interested in tattooing since an early age. Later in life, I was traveling in Asia and was hanging out at tattoo shops. A tattoo artist saw my drawings and told me I should think about tattooing as a career. I stayed there about a year and then I moved back to New York. I was inspired by many great tattoo artists and wanted to learn from them. It helped me to be what I am now.

The Stir: What was the first tattoo that you got?

Angela: The first tattoo I wanted was a little koi fish the size of a palm with a lot of scales, detail, and water around it. I think I gave the tattoo artist a hard time. I'm glad she convinced me to do much bigger koi fish. I was lucky to get tattooed by such an experienced artist.

The Stir:Have you ever tattooed yourself?

Angela: I saw old books at my grandpa's house full of symbols and designs when I was 14 years old. My friend asked me if I could tattoo a butterfly on her and I tattooed a lily on myself. We found some ink and needles from my grandma's sewing kit. The next day I got scared it was a Russian criminal symbol and began asking my friends how to remove it. I tried everything, and it didn't work!
