BalenciagaIn the January issue of Vogue, editors are raving about the black cherry shade seen on the lips of models on Balenciaga's spring runway.

Pat McGrath, famed makeup artist (and the woman responsible for Rooney Mara's Girl with a Dragon Tattoo makeover and Scarlett Johansson's Dolce & Gabbana makeup ads) shared with Vogue how she got the lipstick shade ... and guess what, girls?

You can get it, too!

McGrath has been working with CoverGirl on its lipstick shades, and she used two CG lipsticks to create the color.

Find out how she got this hot spring look after the jump!

Pat McGrath says she got the black cherry hue by layering Fine Wine' lipstick from the CoverGirl Queen Collection (Drugstore.com, $6.99) over LipPerfection lipstick in 'Euphoria' (Drugstore.com, $6.99).

Brilliant!

McGrath tells Vogue "It was about power."

I don't know about you, but I am all about power right now. I love the idea of this color for spring -- It makes me think of 20s-era flappers in filmy floral dresses with black cherry lips.

McGrath added during a CoverGirl event last month that for extra "theatricality" when it comes to the black cherry look, take a little black makeup and blend it into the center of your lower lip

Hmmm. I'm not sure I'd go that far, but I would love to try black cherry lips.

You can be a true trendsetter and start wearing this shade right now, if you're bold enough. It's a great way to liven up dull winter wardrobe, and I'm beginning to see the shade in all the fashion magazines.

Are you bold enough for black cherry lips?
