Say what you will about Nicole Kidman's plastic surgery, but when it comes style, the woman is impeccable. The 45-year-old mother of four attended the premiere of her movie Nebraska at the Cannes Film Festival Thursday and wore a white Valentino Haute Couture gown. But not just any white Valentino Haute Couture gown. The dress is as beautiful as it is storied.
You see, once upon a time, an actress named Anne Hathaway was going to wear this dress to the Oscars ...
... then had a lobotomy and went with a pink Prada column dress that made her boobs look sharp enough to cut glass. She won the Best Supporting Actress award and all anyone could talk about was her pointy nipples. Terrible.
Seeing Nicole in this dress, this almost-Oscars-moment dress, really drives home the point that Anne made a horrible decision when she shunned Valentino at the last minute.
And when I say last minute, I mean last.minute. The design house had already sent out a press release talking up Anne's gorgeous white lace couture gown, only to be stunned when she stepped out of the limo looking like an acicular bubble gum wrapper.
Even Anne knew she made a mistake. If you'll recall, she released a statement apologizing for her eleventh-hour dress switch.
It's too bad Ms. Hathaway missed an opportunity to wear such a gorgeous piece of clothing, but Ms. Kidman certainly does the dress proud.
The Oscars dress that never was is now the Cannes dress that everyone loves.
