Remember last week when Ellen ordered pizza while hosting the Oscars? And the pizza guy actually made the delivery and we all got to see Brad Pitt eating pizza and it was awesome? And THEN Ellen passed around a hat for tips? Well, ONE of the things that made it into that "tip hat" was Lupita N'yong'o's lip balm, and a few days ago, the world found out exactly what kind of lip balm it was.
And now, of course, Lupita's lip balm is sold out. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the magic of the Internet.
First of all, I just have to say that is is so adorable of Lupita to throw in her lip balm, which, as I'm sure you are dying to know, was Clarins HydraQuench Moisture Replenishing Lip Balm. She probably didn't even have any cash with her for a tip. Why would she? I mean, I never even have any cash on me, despite the fact that I cart around my giant handbag everywhere. But she seems like the kind of person who really want to be able to contribute to a tip, so in she tossed her beloved lip balm.
And I do mean beloved: Lupita told Essence magazine recently that it was the one beauty product she can't live without! I can see why; at the Oscars, (as in most of her appearances), her overall gorgeous look was definitely accentuated by those luscious lips! Well, I'm sure Lupita won't have to go without -- something tells me Clarins is going to keep Lupita stocked with the balm for life!
For the rest of us mere everyday folk, even if we wanted to pay $24 for a tube of it, we can't, until it gets restocked. Luckily, there are a bunch of truly excellent lips balms out there for us. Here are three of my favorites:
Smith's Rosebud Salve ($6 at Sephora)
Truly excellent stuff. I am tormented by dry skin and dry lips all winter long, but as long as I keep a steady supply of this salve handy, my lips stay plump and pretty. You can also find it in a tube, which I like for ease of application.
Korres Lip Butter ($12 at Sephora)
This is one of my all-time favorite beauty products. Completely lush and moisturizing, Korres lip butters come in a variety of shades, including the very flattering Jasmine shown here, and a clear gloss. Divine.
Claudalie Lip Conditioner ($12 at Sephora)
Claudalie is another wonderful line, and their lip conditioner is formulated with antioxidants and repairing apricot oil for smooth, soft, and protected lips.
Dior Addict Lip Glow ($32 at Sephora)
If you've got splurging on your mind, this is the way to go. A cult favorite, Lip Glow is a sheer balm that's designed to react with your lip chemistry to create a special shade that will last and protect your lips all day.
Are you a lip balm addict like me? (And Lupita!)
