We've alllllll been there. You try on a killer pair of shoes that you feel like you could DIE over, and decide that you don't care how they feel -- you HAVE to have them. Trust me ladies, you are NOT alone. Hell, squeezing into cute shoes is practically an essentially female characteristic! Megan Hilty, who plays Ivy in the new NBC hit show Smash, recently told Racked that she too has done the shoe squeeze, and she's starting to realize it may not be worth it:
"I'm a huge fan of shoes," Hilty said. "But I'm a huge fan of comfort as well. I don't want to feel like I'm going to have to do a little awkward dance because my shoes don't fit."
Little awkward dance? Hey Megan! I've SO totally been there. Except a few months ago, I told myself that enough was enough, and I was NOT going to awkward dance anymore.
Hear me out, OK?
Unfortunately, I stopped doing the shoe dance because I was forced to. After finding out via some sharp pains that I had a neuroma in my left foot (AKA, a super-sensitive inflamed nerve) -- I had to shelf all my too-cute-for-words high stilettos and fave heeled booties for more sensible, comfortable alternatives.
You know what, though? It hasn't been so bad. Instead of limping around a few hours into a night out, I'm cozy and happy to be rockin' the "less attractive" pairs. I've also found that there is a way to find comfy styles without 100 percent sacrificing style. Personally, my go-to stores have been Aerosoles and Cole Haan (I snagged mine on the cheap from Marshalls!).
In my mind, we all need to stick with Megan's attitude when it comes to shoe shopping: No matter how cute the heels look, you'll look like a fool if you can't walk in 'em.
Do you look for comfort over style? Or the other way around?
